5oo4 – Weekender Tunic

A couple of months ago I had a poster session to present at, and wanted something “me made” to wear. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling anything in my closet. I had bought this amazing fabric from Boho Fabrics that was just sitting in my closet waiting to be sewn up… but I didn’t have the right pattern for it.

I found the 5 out of 4 Patterns Weekender Tunic and thought it would work great for what I needed. The top has dropped shoulders (like a dolman… my favorite!) and TONS of options. I wanted a basic top that I could wear with dress pants and a blazer, so I opted for the most basic options in short sleeve.

I measured into the XS in the chest and waist and a S in hips, so I graded the pattern to reflect that. I added 1/4″ above the armpit for length. I cut out the pattern and was ready to go!

This beautiful technicolor purple sweater knit was a bit tricky to work with. This was my first time working with a looser weave sweater knit, and I had to be extra careful between cutting and sewing so the fabric didn’t unravel.

The short sleeves are finished differently than every other pattern I’ve sewn. There is a facing that is sewn on, flipped and topstitched. It worked well with the fabric, and I like the look. The neckline is also folded under twice and hemmed, which is different from other patterns I have done… but I like the look!

Because of the fabric, I’m not a fan of the top worn plain. It hangs a bit loose for my liking. I’ve worn it tucked in and with a belt, and I love it both ways! I should have sized down with this fabric… but I’m happy with it styled this way. 🙂

These pictures were taken a couple of months ago. Can you tell I was chilly? 😂 Have you tried this pattern yet? What are your thoughts? Be sure to let me know in the comments!

I’m excited to try out some of the options on my next version. Maybe the placket with lace up detail?! Or the high low hem. 🙂

  1. I made a version of this tunic yesterday and am thrilled with it. I’m new to knits…in fact this is my first knit project and brand new to .pdf patterns also. I bought a pre-cut roll of fabric at my local discount store and had no idea what to do with it so I used it for the tunic. It’s much too sheer but I found a good camisole to wear under and I’m thrilled with the pattern and the finished project. I’m going back to roll the hem a little better but I’m super excited. I tried to post a photo but it won’t go so…
